Just like you mastered reviews on Amazon or dialed in post-purchase flows on Shopify, TikTok Shop flips the playbook. Before buyers ever hit your product page, they’re watching creators unbox, demo, or shout out your product. That means your customer review strategy has to start before the purchase, not after.
But that doesn’t mean reviews don’t matter, they just work differently. Here's how TikTok Shop’s review system stacks up against the platforms you already know, and how third-party apps can help you build social proof faster and double your conversions.
If you're used to managing reviews on Amazon or Shopify, TikTok Shop will feel familiar in some ways, and totally new in others. Like Amazon, reviews can't be edited or manually uploaded. But unlike Shopify, where you have full display control, TikTok Shop runs reviews through its own strict moderation layer. That means not all imported reviews will show up.
And here’s a key detail that often causes confusion: there is currently no way to sync or import customer reviews from Amazon to TikTok Shop. It's one of the most requested features, but it is not available as of now. Brands looking to build trust on TikTok Shop will need to start collecting reviews natively or via TikTok-compliant third party apps.
The biggest difference? Reviews are part of TikTok Shop’s algorithmic trust signals. Verified, recent reviews help your products rank better and build credibility with buyers scrolling through the app.
